Yummy Apple Crisp – A Modified Version

For some odd reason, I do not have a photo from when I made this dish.  We are familiar with apple crisps so it wouldn’t be novel to have a photo but I felt it would be enticing to see the juicy yummy dessert.  Anyhoo, it’s super easy to make any time.

When you have a hankering for apple pie and you are out of oatmeal, I improvised using what we do have.

While the oven preheats to 350 degrees, I halve the apples, scoop out seeds, cut out the stem and end.

I stood the apples in a small baking dish, added a little water to the bottom of the dish, sprinkle the apples with cinnamon and brown sugar, and a slice of soft or slightly melted butter in apple well – if your taste buds prefer.

In a separate dish, combine one packet of instant oatmeal of choice (this is where I improvised because we were out of regular oatmeal).   I like the brown sugar and maple. (you can use regular oatmeal but add a little salt to the mixture.)  Combine the basics of oatmeal, butter, and cinnamon.  Other additions of choice can be cardamon, dried coconut, and/or chopped walnuts (or crushed, I like the piece smaller than chopped).  Mix well so you can form a ball, add butter as needed.

Now scoop the mixer on top of each apple half, press down firmly on the pile so the mixture holds its shape.

Cover the baking dish with foil and bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Then uncover and bake an additional 30 minutes.

Remove from oven and cool a bit before eating.  Serve alone or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and drizzle with caramel or salted caramel sauce.

Lastly, Lick your Lips
